Attention Parents and Carers – our children are being robbed

If you have children or grandchildren at school, you need to know something. Schools funding is being cut in real terms, and by 2020 the government will be spending £3bn less in schools than it does now. What does this mean for our children? Bigger classes, fewer teaching and support staff, less equipment. Less fun, less opportunity to excel, less support, lower achievement. Is this what we want for our kids? SchoolCuts

In my book, teachers are heros. They do such an important job, helping our kids be the best they can be. Ask any teacher if they think schools have enough money and the answer will be a resounding 'NO!'. Now the government is taking yet more money away from schools, and teachers are raising the alarm. Teachers know that if there is going to be less money in schools, it is our children who will pay the price.

Hannah Fraser said 'I am truly appalled by the Conservative government's lack of vision for our children. Our kids are literally the future of the country, and we should be giving them every opportunity to learn and grow, not stifling them in classes that are too big and under-resourced. Everyone should be angry about this, and should make their anger known. Unless the government get a clear and loud message from parents, our children's future looks bleak indeed'.

To find out more about the cuts and the money your local school will lose by 2020, go to www.schoolcuts.org.uk. Here you can also sign a petition and write to your MP.

In Shropshire, teachers and parents are mobilising to protest about school funding cuts. You can follow the movement on facebook at 'Shropshire Parents AGAINST school funding cuts'.
